Vikings
The Vikings were settled in different tribes in the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Norway and Denmark). They were traders and traveled by boat to the British Isles, Ireland, French and Russia. Some of them settled on Iceland, and continued west to Greenland and Newfoundland (present Canada). Mainly the Vikings from Sweden traveled down Volga to the Black Sea and Constantinople.
The Vikings are also known as warriors and the first documented attack was in the year 793, at the monastery Lindisfarne. For about 250 years the Vikings were the most powerful and influential people of northern Europe. There are many traces from this period to discover in the Scandinavian countries.

On the tracks of the Vikings 6 days
Arrival in Copenhagen. In the nearby town Roskilde we will pay a visit to the Viking ship museum. Next to the museum is a research center for the Viking history and culture. Replicas of Viking ships have been constructed here. We cross the Oresund strait to Sweden and pay a visit to a reconstructed Viking village. On our way to Stockholm, we will have the opportunity to see one of Sweden’s most well-known rune stones in Rok.
From Stockholm we will make a boat excursion to the former Viking village Birka, situated on an island in Lake Malaren. In the museum you can see archaeological finds and learn about life during the Viking era. Continuing to Oslo we will cross the old Viking route. Oslo was already populated at the end of the Viking Age, and offers some beautifully restored Viking ships in the Viking Ship Museum.
UNESCO World heritage tour in Sweden 8 days
Stockholm is often called “beauty on water” or “Venice of the north”, as the town is built on 14 islands. The magnificent old town is located on a small island between the Baltic Sea and Lake Malaren. The area of Stockholm offers 3 sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List: the royal Domain of Drottningholm, the Viking settlement Birka, situated on an island in Lake Malaren and the Woodland Cemetery, Skogskyrogarden.
Ferry departure from Nynashamn to Visby on the Island of Gotland, another interesting World heritage site. Visby was one of the main centers of the Hanseatic League in the Baltic Sea during the Middle Ages. Its 13th century ramparts, trading establishments and many warehouses, make it the best-preserved fortified commercial city in northern Europe.
Return to the mainland by ferry and continue to the UNESCO world Heritage site Karlskrona, which has a long tradition as a naval base. Our next UNSECO World Heritage site is the magnificent Bronze Age Rock Carvings in Tanum. The last UNESCO World Heritage site we visit on this tour, is the best-preserved and most complete example of Swedish ironworks.
